Ernest, an Elder from the Mi’Kmaw Nation Eskasoni, shared land-based learning with all grade 5 students at Brookland School. They then planted a new Reconciliation Garden based on Ernest’s teachings focused solely on native species (e.g blueberry, bayberry, elderberry, serviceberry, hazelnut, dogwood, sumac) that would have been present in NS before settlers. The students learned how to care for living things, how all nature is interconnected and the importance of cross culture sharing.
