We nominate Mary Anne Jackson-Hughes as our Garden Hero for her commitment to protecting our ecosystems and for her mentoring of youth and adults to become more conscientious and skilled gardeners. A professionally trained horticulturalist, Mary Anne brings knowledge and environmentally friendly practices to the two food bank gardens she co-manages: Debra Dynes and the Barrhaven Food Cupboard Gardens. Both are pollinator gardens and managed without fertilizers or pesticides.
